Within the Light Within ~ a new years message and 2024 Botanical Calendar

2024 Botanical Calendar — Within The Light Within

There is light within everything. We sense this when we take time to pause and allow ourselves to be immersed within it. It’s what we do when we meditate. We climb inside our light and stay there until we are rested, restored, and transformed.  

As an artist and photographer, I find profound light within as I am creating, and when the work is complete, the immersive aspects continue to affect me and others. 

This year has been a significant year of transition for my family with the departure of my brother and my father from this earth. It has also been a time of exponential growth, and there were so many blessings and special moments uncovered along the way. Looking back, I would not change a thing.

The only truly difficult part of this year was the amount of dust and stress within the flowers as I searched area gardens and paths for the light within flowers. I always count on being immersed within their divine energies as I am seeking their inner beauty and wisdom. They bathe me in joy, lift my spirits, and assist my transformational journey day by day. In Washington DC, where I do much of my outdoor environmental macro photography, there was no rain this spring. The flowers were smaller, stressed, often buggy, and covered in dust. As we moved into summer, the smoke from the fires up North added even more layers of dust. Hundreds of photographs came back too dirty to use. The dirt can be sensed, but the macro lens sees every speck as dark boulders clinging to soft delicately textured petals of flowers, interrupting their beauty and light within. However difficult it was, some flowers appeared, often after a good rain, that were clean and clear and radiant within.

To prepare myself and others for being within the light for 2024, I have created a calendar of the light within flowers to remind us that there is always light within, and it is always accessible. I have chosen 12 of my favorite images from this past year and created this petite calendar that measures 6x12 when hanging on the wall. The photographs are close-up and personal images of flowers that have intrinsic light qualities.
